Matayoshi Kobudo - BTB Martial Arts

Kobudo is a traditional martial art that extends the techniques of Karate into weaponry. Originating in Okinawa during the 17th century, when the Satsuma clan outlawed conventional weapons, the local populace adapted everyday tools and farming implements for self-defence against Samurai. Common weapons include the Bo (staff), Sai (trident), Tonfa (grinder handle), Kama (rice cutter), Nunchaku (horse bridal), Kuwa (garden hoe), and Eku (boat oar). The term “Kobudo” translates to “Way to Stop War,” reflecting its origins in conflict resolution through practical martial techniques.

Instructed by Sensei Marlene Cooper at the Romsey Dojo and by Sensei Dominic Sculli at BTB Martial Arts and Fitness Centre and in Ocean Grove. Both instructors bring extensive experience and dedication to their teaching, ensuring high-quality instruction in the practice of Kobudo. You can refer to both the Romsey and BTB Timetable for further details.
